REBELLION DEVELOPMENTS
Sniper Elite 5 - Official Weapons and Customization Behind the Scenes
Responsible for camera operation (weapon firing and interviews), setting up mics, lighting, interviewing, games capture (with assistance from Billy Baker), in-engine cinematics, editing and rough audio mix (final audio mix by Joe Grieg).
This project was a personal favourite as I were given the opportunity to create a Behind-the-scenes look into the development process of the game. This involved filming the firing and handling of WW2 weaponry by weapons experts and capturing the audio recording process by Rebellion's audio team. This project proved successful and contributed as part of larger marketing campaign of Sniper Elite 5.
As part of the video team, I was responsible for setting up 3 cameras on tripods (2 Sony A7R III's and a Panasonic GH5), one for closeup with a zoom lens, one for wide angle shots and another as a backup behind the weapons experts. For the weapon firing, we had a Zoom audio recorder connect to a mixing desk via XLR input capturing 32-bit float audio for the weapon firing (as to avoid clipped audio).
We had a lot of fun making this project, they even let me keep some of the shells from the Thompson! A personal highlight was filming the firing of the Boys anti-tank file and the MG42 mounted machine gun — they were loud! My team members weren't eager to get close to the weapons but due to a previous job I was comfortable working around live weapons. The MG42 unfortunately malfunctioned during filming so I quickly decided to record in a higher framerate for more freedom in the edit, especially being such as well-known gun.
As part of a 3 person team on the shoot, I played a meaningful role in helping market one of Rebellion’s biggest titles — and had a lot of fun doing it.
Equipment used: Sony A7R III, Panasonic GH5, LED panels, Lav mics, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects
